त्रिभुवन विश्वविद्यालयलाई कानुन परिमार्जन गर्नुपर्छ : शिक्षामन्त्री भट्टराई
Kathmandu, December 10. Minister for Education, Science and Technology Bidya Bhattarai has said that Tribhuvan University will be reformed even if it means changing the legal system.
He made this statement during an interview with the Education Journalists Network Nepal (EJON) organized in Kathmandu on Thursday. He pointed out that while all universities need to be reformed, Tribhuvan University should be reformed first.
He said that the officials should play the biggest role in solving the problems seen in universities. He understands that university officials are not able to play a leadership role because they are linked to political ideas. He said that the university officials understand that they cannot handle the responsibility of their positions if they are not linked to political considerations because they have developed the idea that politics alone creates positions.
Education Minister Bhattarai said, "There are enough examples of people who did not understand the movement and who were unable to take responsibility when they reached the leadership position because the university has been affected by the movement since yesterday. Therefore, all universities should be reformed. But first, Tribhuvan University should be reformed. For that, we should reform the laws by changing them. How much support should I give to the officials for that? I would not say 100 percent, but I have supported them 60 percent so far."
Minister Bhattarai informed that everyone's support and cooperation is needed for the improvement of the university. He claimed that the Grants Commission has been developed as an institution for liaison and coordination with the university. He said that after becoming the minister, he has held discussions with the Commission several times for the improvement of the university.
"We have developed the Grants Commission as an institution for liaison and coordination with the university. But the legal scope of the Grants Commission is narrow. They say we cannot do some things. But after I came, I have held five meetings with the commission for the reform of the university. Now, new office bearers have come to the university again," said Education Minister Bhattarai, "We have also met with them. In the first point, we have mentioned the issue of university reform. The office bearers should play the first role in solving all the problems that exist in universities today." He said that the government is always ready to support the reform of the university.
